Deal Features

Built on the grounds of a Revolution-era iron forge, this par-63 executive course fulfills an important desire of its former owner to develop the land into a public recreation center.

Liberty Forge Golf Course

The story of Liberty Forge Golf Course began in the time of George Washington, as a farm owned by an “iron master.” The abundant hardwoods and the farm’s draught horses made this land an ideal location for forging iron. Over the interceding years, the land changed hands many times, eventually purchased by the late John G. Williams in 1985. Mr. Williams envisioned a public recreation center for the community, plans which included a golf course.

Years later, in May 2003, Liberty Forge Golf Course opened to the public. Primarily designed and constructed by Alby Gerst, this 18-hole executive-length golf course measures just 3,633 yards yet packs all the punch you’d expect from a full-length track. Its 18 holes are divided up evenly between par-4s and par-3s, and feature all bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens. Water comes into play on nine holes, complete with a fairway island landing zone on No. 18.

In addition to the course, Liberty Forge also offers a full practice facility, complete with a 34-stall driving range plus an additional natural grass tee area, putting green, and practice bunker. There’s also a family-friendly option for the kids: an 18-hole miniature golf course.

Liberty Forge Golf Course represents the fulfillment of Mr. Williams’ dream of providing a sustainable and environmentally conscious community recreation facility to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Set among the area’s rolling hills and spectacular scenery, this more than 90-year-old course has not only hit peak maturity but is also under new management, resulting in impeccable and incredible ready-to-play conditions on this truly impressive layout.

Spending most of its life as a private club accessible to members only, Berkleigh gained an ample reputation as home to one of the finest rounds in the Commonwealth. Now, open to the public and ready for play by golfers of all skill levels, the Robert White (the first president of the PGA of America) design offers a picturesque yet playable par-72 18 holes that will not only test your physical abilities to hit the ball, but also your mental mettle as you try to plan shots and execute a course management strategy properly.

As you make your way through your round, you’ll find various forms of hazard including water (that culminates on the par-3 15th’s intimidating tee shot) as well as many purposely placed sand bunkers often standing between you and the greens. Many varieties of tall, mature trees are also frequently in play, so do your best to stay accurate off of the tee and with your approach shots. Playing 6,800 yards from the back set of tees (of which there are four), you should expect to use every club in your bag in your quest for a low score here – which is certainly possible if you scramble properly.

If you want to truly enjoy a private club experience without the yearly membership dues, don’t hesitate and let this feature pass you by. Reserve your round at Berkleigh now and enjoy all that the best Pennsylvania golf has to offer.

How many times were you sure your putt was going to break a half of a ball left, only to watch it stop a foot short, two cups to the right? Do you remember the last time you thought for sure you had to get it up the hill, only to realize you were actually putting downhill after your ball screamed past the hole? If all this sounds familiar, eliminate “green guesstimation” with today’s feature: $20 for one Sure Putt green-reading aid from Sure Putt Golf, a $43 value that includes shipping.

The Sure Putt is a unique way to read the slope and break on a green. This clever device shows any uphill, downhill, and left- or right-sloping break on any putting surface. Similar to a level you might find on any construction site, the bubble in the spirit level will move around the dial, revealing to you the direction of even the slightest break. If the bubble is located directly in the center of the dial the green is level — but we all know how often that happens. By reading the dial around the disc before you address your ball, you can free yourself to putt with confidence.

Using the Sure Putt is simple. Reading the location of the bubble in a particular quadrant on the dial shows you the path your ball will take on its way to the hole. The further outside the center circle on the dial, the quicker the slope. To make its use even easier, the Sure Putt’s large, flat face is engraved with directions in every quadrant on the dial and is heavy enough to lay flat on the green even in windy conditions, providing you with an accurate read on every putt.

Best of all, the Sure Putt can help your game even when you don’thave it in your bag. Continued use of the Sure Putt will train your eye to see the subtle contours that can drastically reduce your chances even on short putts. The more you use it, the better your putting game will be. Training your eye with the Sure Putt during non-tournament play, casual rounds or general practice will help prevent you from having to talk about the one-putt that got away.

For today’s feature, you may choose between seven colors: Blue, red, purple, orange, black, silver and dark green. And to help protect the Sure Putt when not in use, each unit of the Sure Putt comes with its own velour bag and gift box
